This year the event will take place at the National Watersports Centre, Nottingham. Specific activities over the weekend will (as usual) remain a closely guarded secret: If you're good at getting yourself out of awkward situations then get yourself out for NGOOT. Friday: Arrive and settle in. This will give you the opportunity to arrive at your leisure and prepare for the challenge. Saturday: This is where the fun starts. After breakfast the details of the days challenges will then be provided. Sunday: Breakfast, followed by more of those tantalising challenges. Monday: Breakfast and final activities until early afternoon. To enable a leisurely drive home for all. What does each team or member need to provide

See Spot Run - WinBY PHILIP BETTIS NGOOT was indeed "Well worth the drive down" As my team mates`s Driver can I just say that my passengers did a lot of sleeping on the way back... apparently for them the 275 mile trip didn't seem to take as long getting back as it did getting there... I wonder why ? (I though it was a lot further on the way back !) None of our team had ever done NGOOT before and I think we were a little taken aback at the intensity and number of challenges set for the teams (I was expecting a nice relaxing evening after the 12 mile hike, but we were kept busy with more tasks to complete until gone 11:00pm). Still we rose to every challenge set before us, and despite the best efforts of the chasing groups to overhaul the 25 point lead we built up on the first day, by the last event we had even pulled a few more points ahead. My thanks to Janet and John, my team mates in "See Spot Run" (the Bradford team), thanks to the organisers, the amount of time, thought and effort they put into produce NGOOT dwarfs what we put in to win it, and thanks to all the other competitors, we all had such a good time that it proves participation is the most important thing. < //--- Gloat Mode = ON > The final event was to make a presentation on why your team deserved to win, from other teams this became a session to bribe the organisers with offers of Money, Chocolates, Alcohol, Holiday Accomodation, Sexual Favours etc. etc. The runners up said the reason they deserved to win was "so Bradford don't" and called upon the almighty to work a miracle so that they would overtake us. Our conclusion was that we deserved to win because all we had done was to do our best - and our best was just that much better than any of the other teams could manage. So that just leaves one more thing to say... We will be back to defend our trophy next year... can we have some serious opposition then please ? < //--- Gloat Mode = OFF > Fil --- ("See Spot Run"... E-MAIL THANK-YOU NOTES.
Susan Jardine - Flowing Well Team Member I would like to say a big thank you to Dave, Jarrett, Nicky and Martin and Sally for a fantastic weekend - even though we get come last, and I am still struggling to walk. Obviously a hell of a lot of work went into the event. I would like to congratulate Bradford for being the winners. Thanks again, and I am looking forward to next year . | Janet Rintoul - See Spot Run Member I would like to repeat what Susan said, NGOOT was well run, great fun and I had a great time. (Helps when you win) Thank you loads Martin, Dave, Nicki and Jarrett for all your hard work. It was well worth the drive down and although I am completely knackered and now need to sleep for a week I would definteley repeat the experience. When is next years? | Fil Bettis - See Spot Run Member "Well worth the drive down" - indeed ! ! None of our team had ever done NGOOT before and I think we were a little taken aback at the intensity and number of challenges. My thanks to Janet and John, my team mates in "See Spot Run" (Bradford), thanks to the organisers, the amount of time, thought and effort they put in to produce NGOOT dwarfs what we put in to win it, and thanks to all the other competitors, we all had such a good time that it proves participation is the most important thing. |
David Ireland - Red Job Irishman Team Member Just wanting to echo Susan Jardine's thank you to Dave, Jarrett, Nicky and Martin for the incredible amount of effort they have put in to what has probably been the best 18 Plus weekend I have ever experienced. There was a superb variation of exercises and challenges from Saturday through to Monday which I believe brought out the best in everybody (and the worst too!). But seriously, it is a weekend like this that really will develop a team. | Robert Blanks - Flowing Well Team MemberAn excellent weekend, I throughly enjoyed it and expect I'll be back for another weekend of torture next year. The organisers did a great job and made the event the success it was. A very enlightening weekend, I even found out I was claustraphobic, unfortunatly I still had to do the majority of the potholing. I don't think I've ever moved so fast before. I certainly hope Bradford return next year so us 'Southern Softies' can have another go at beating them. Thanks to all the teams for beating us and making it a fun experience to lose. | |
Nicola Poppitt - Organiser Thanks to everyone who participated in NGOOT this year to make it an excellant event. | Jarrett Smith - OrganiserJust a quick message to say thank you to everyone who took part in this years NGOOT. Everyone seemed to have a thoughly enjoyable time. It was interesting to note each members strengths and weaknesses and how they varied. Everyone had skills and talents they could offer to their teams and I hope as a result confidence has been built up. |
NGOOT 2005 - Why You Should Go!BY JANET RINTOUL I am just writing to give my experiences of NGOOT, to encourage anyone who is thinking about going to book. NGOOT two years ago was the second major event I had been on. I found it very friendly welcoming and fun. As I was driving down from Bradford I was wondering if I would have anyone to talk to other than my team mates who I was only beginning to get to know. When I arrived at 11:00 p.m. it was straight to the pub and meeting lots of plussers chating and catching up on the gossip. Then to the scout venue continuing 'till the early hours. Sleeping in dormitories I found an excellent way of getting to know the others who were staying, you are not left on your own in a hotel room wondering where people are. Saturday was an early start, straight away with a car treasure hunt, hunting for clues to solve a logic problem, collecting the largest piece of grass amongst other things. Followed by pub lunches, orienteering in the dark, potholing, making masks, ghost stories, getting tied up with pieces of string, barbeuqes. Sunday meant more of the same a walking treasure hunt, pooh sticks on the original bridge, charades with jarrett and some questionable things to guess. Nicky making us hop, skip and jump along a footpath. Dave making our brains hurt with his quizzes. The camaraderie was excellent, everyone was in this together and in the evening everyone had there own story to tell. Whether its the debate on if bamboo is really a piece of grass, where on earth where Daves photos taken from, whose feet have the most blisters. At the end of the event each group had to give a speech about why they should win. My favourite being the Bouncy Bouncy Fun Fun Fun speech saying we should win just so See Spot Run doesn't, then getting everyone in the room to hold hands and pray to that effect. This weekend has been one of the highlights of my 18 plus life, it was a well organised event, with loads of activities and a great atmosphere. In that one weekend I made so many friends. It was well worth the six hour drive to attend. As you can tell I am a convert, and I am pleased to see NGOOT return. So if any one is wondering whether to go or not, my answer is definitly YES. Its great.
